Great for every day

Date:November 1, 2011
We bought these knives for my mom for Christmas last year along with the 4.5" parer. She really likes them and uses them almost every day.
It makes me happy that we were able to give her the same quality knives that me and my husband love to use every day. We hope to add to her set this Christmas.

I use the shorter knife a lot, and the longer one when I am cutting more items (entire onion instead of part, etc). These knives fit well in the hand and are easy to use safely. My only problem is that I cannot use more than half of the cutting surface before my knuckles hit the cutting board. I should probably use the Santoku for those jobs, but it seems larger than I need most of the time.

The knives fit comfortably in the hand; they are well-balanced. Enjoy having the name of each knife printed so that it is visible when the knives are in the knife block.

We were looking for new knives to replace a couple that had broken handles. We were checking out Henckels because we have some of their steak knives, but couldn't find the combination we wanted.
Calphalon had a set we liked, and with a lifetime guarantee we couldn't pass it up. What a great decision! These knives have sturdy handles and sharp blades that cut easily. Calphalon is a brand we will buy again.

These knives are so easy to use. They fit right into the palm of my hand and have a very nice grip. I have long fingers and I don't seem to be over shooting anything and they don't feel too small in my hands. They cut beautifully. It's almost amazing how well I now cut because of these knives. You can't go wrong with the quality. I love that you can see that the blade and the handle are all one piece. No more handles breaking off for us!
We have used it on everything. Strawberries, apples, pears, oranges, even raw and cooked meats. The clean up is easy, just toss in the dishwasher and you're done, until next time!

Fruit and Vegetable Knives

I've had this set for about a week now and like the quality of the set. Both have a great weight and balance that feels great in my hand. They are sharp and do great with precision cutting. The handles have a nice grip that feels safe to use.
My two complaints (which are minor) are that they are not dishwasher safe, and the parer knife is larger than what I am used to using. Due to it's larger size I'm worried that my hand my tire faster doing larger tasks like peeling potatoes for a large gathering.
Overall though, they are great solid knives that I am proud to have in my collection.

Since I've received the fruit and vegetable knife set I haven't been using any other tool in my kitchen. They have the perfect size and shape for the intended use, ergonomic handle and easy to use. The only drawback is that they are NOT machine wash safe. I forgot to tell this to my caregiver, and unfortunately the handle of the parer knife changed color after she washed it in the dishwasher. Other than that I highly recommend these products.

Great for small hands

Date:April 26, 2010
I'm a bit of a dunce in the kitchen, and I normally hate all the chopping and dicing that goes into cooking. These Calphalon knives, however, make those tedious tasks almost -- dare I say it -- pleasant!
I've been using them regularly for several weeks, and they're still brilliantly sharp. I have tiny hands (my 12yo daughter's hands are larger than mine), and the shape of the handles on these knives make using them quite comfortable.
The handles feel solid and blades good and heavy. They're sharp all the way to the tip. Having good quality knives has made my time in the kitchen much more enjoyable.
These knives are a great value. In comparison to other Calphalon products, they're quite reasonably priced and a good value for the money.
Thank you, Calphalon!

Size *does* matter

Date:April 22, 2010
I've always been the kind of gal that believed bigger was better. For the last 10 or so years, the only knife in my busy kitchen that I relied upon with any regularity was my beloved, extra hefty, extra big, extra sharp, Chef's knife. It was all I ever needed. (Seriously, I can even pit cherries with this sucker.) Then I met Calphalon's Contemporary Cutlery Fruit & Vegetable Set. Size *does* matter. Or rather, a *variety* of sizes matter. Who knew?! I love the precision of the 3.5" parer knife and the 6" Utility knife is unbelievably (wait for it) utilitarian. It's a true workhorse in my kitchen now. I also really appreciate the *feel* of these knives. The handles have just enough heft. They feel very substantial but aren't too clunky or awkward for my small hands. The weight of these knives is right on the money too. My Chef's knife is a little lonely these days but I think it understands that it's high time that I use the right tool for the right job.

I have always heard a good knife makes all the difference in cooking and boy oh boy is that true! I never knew how bad my knives were until I got these. These two knives and a butcher knife and I'm set to go, get rid of the rest.
They are the perfect weight and fit nicely in my hand. The steel is nice and thick and makes slicing and chopping anything a breeze. Love, love, love these knives!

Cuts like butter

Date:April 22, 2010
I have had the opportunity to use both the 3 1/2 in paring knife and the 6 in utility knife in preparing meals for my family. My first response when cutting raw potatoes was "wow, this is like cutting through butter". The knives were both very sharp and easy to use. The handle was comfortable and fit in my hand nicely. Using them both right and left handed was easy. The knives were all top quality.
I do wish the packaging said more about HOW to sharpen the knives correctly. I also wish they were dishwasher safe, the labeling stated that for best effect to hand wash and dry the blades. For my busy family life, the easier the clean up, the more I like the product.
I love my knives and I am looking forward to using the 8 in blade. I will be happy to buy/use Calphalon knives again. I look forward to using these blades for a long time in the future.

These knives cut like lasers!

Date:April 21, 2010
Last year for Christmas I bought my mom these knives. She raved endlessly about how they cut through everything she tried them on like butter. I figured she was just effusing because I got them for her--NOT! I was excited when I got them, as they are a great addition to what I have, but I nearly swooned when I used them! I couldn't believe how they cut! Food preparation is actually fun now! However, I suspect that anyone reading this would think I, like my mother, exaggerate. You just have to try them to believe them. I need more, more, more of these!!!

My Clumsy Fingers Thank You

Date:April 21, 2010
I have a lot of knives. I have hand-me-down knives, bought-it-at-a-party knives, saved-up-for-a-long-time knives, and even a few not-really-sure-where-they-came-from knives. I'm not the most coordinated cook, and it helps me to have a knife that I'm comfortable with for each task I undertake. That's all changing now; my new Calphalon cutlery set is already taking the place of all of my other knives. The knives are perfectly shaped, awesomely sharp, and so well-balanced that even a klutz like me can handle them with apparent grace. With the 6" Utility knife I've trimmed several artichokes for steaming, peeled, pitted and chopped a mango (using that inside-out method that the TV cooks make look so easy but has always foiled me before), and made super-thin slices of onion for the best tasting hamburgers ever. The only drawback to the knives is that they may make me into a bit of an egomaniac; I always figured it was my lack of skill that kept me from accomplishing these tasks, and now I know I can do anything with a good knife.

Old Knives now in Camping Gear!

Date:April 21, 2010
Okay, I have to admit that I actually cut myself the first time I used the paring knife. (Nothing serious) I'd been using Pampered Chef knives for so long that I didn't realize how dull they were until I used the Calphalon knives. OMG! What a difference! These are the knives I reach for now and the Pampered Chef knives have now been relegated to the Camping equipment!
I didn't realize how much easier my job could be cutting veggies and fruit until I used a good quality knife. I'm not fighting with the fruit anymore!!!!

These knives are so comfortable to use! I used to prefer to use a peeler for my vegetables but I've started to just use the paring knife, since it is so easy to use. These knives are nicely weighted in the grip to sit in your hand - they seem to angle themselves into cutting position. My new favorite kitchen tools!

These two knives were extremely sharp and comfortable in my hand. The only problem I noticed was that after a single run through the dishwasher, the black handle turned more of a gray color. I used the recommended detergent (Cascasde) and did not use the heated drying cycle.

This set has come in very handy every day since receiving them. I like the weight to the knives - they do not feel flimsy like some of the cheaper knives I have. I have been using the 6" Utility Knife and the 3.5" Parer Knife frequently. I have been very pleased with both items. The ease of peeling/slicing is amazing in comparison to my other knives. I didn't realize how dull (and dangerous) my other knives were until I used the Calphalon items. I am very pleased. I had some family over and my sister-in-law used the 3.5" Parer Knife while helping me prep a meal and she, too, commented on the ease of use. Both knives are great products!

These knoves work very well, in fact they are almost too sharp! Everyone has been very impressed.
The one thing I would suggest is that they include some sort of cover for storing in a drawer. We do use a knife block, there is not enough counter room and they are not safe for a house with small children.

I am been trying to eat more salads lately so Calphalon sending me knives to try out was great timing. I've been chopping a lot of vegetables and the knives that I reach for over and over again are the Calphalon ones. They have a nice feel in my hand, not too light and very substantial. I can tell these knives will last forever. They are very attractive too. I would highly recommend a set of these knives to anyone that does the least bit of cooking.

Until I got these knives, I didn't even realize that Calphalon makes knives but I'm very glad I found out. I love the weight of them, the handles are really comfortable to use day in and out, and I love that the ends of the knives indicate what size they are. I didn't realize how annoying it is to pull out the wrong size knife because I couldn't tell which one it is until I didn't have to do that anymore. Love these knives!

Very strong and sharp

Date:March 31, 2010
I was impressed by these knives. I used the larger one to cut a carrot and it cut right through easily. I cut strawberries with the smaller one and was very impressed with the blade. My only complaint is the packaging. It was hard to get them out and I accidently scraped the handle when I tried to cut the plastic that was wrapped around the knife.

Fabulous knives

These knives look great and perform flawlessly. I had been using a similar knife (different expensive brand) to the smaller one. But my old one has a significantly longer handle. When I first picked up the 3.5" Calphalon knife I thought I wouldn't like the shorter handle, but I found that it is easier to do precise work with small foods when my hand is not so far away from the tip of the knife.
I also thought that the labels on the end of the handle (that tells you the size and purpose of the knife) might look a little "cheesy" in the knife block. But I quickly got over that when I thought about how much time I have wasted over the years pulling out the wrong knife, putting it back in, pulling out another wrong knife, etc. Now I really appreciate those labels! It also facilitates other people helping in the kitchen. ;)

When I got my box opened and saw these knives, I wasn't overly impressed. That is until I tried it the first time. I am amazed at how a good knife can make my job in the kitchen so much easier and more enjoyable. From now on, I will spend the extra money and get Calphalon knives.

So far we've only been able to test on an apple. That was just fine though! I've never seen cuts so smooth on an apple and the skin just came off with ease. Beautiful simply beautiful.

Hand me down, old, worn out knives were NOT cutting it (pun intended). These knives are super sharp, heavy weight, and slice everything with ease. I am especially in awe of the job they do on onions, making thin, even slices.

Great knife set

Super sharp knives made quick work of slicing and dicing omelette ingredients. They are made exceptionally well and they felt very good in hand. Heavy and sturdy. I know I will get a lot of use out of both of these.

Great weight and feel to these knives. Beautiful shape and proportion. Soft handles are comfortable and not slippery and strong, full-length blades. Love them!

The parer knife is great for smaller jobs but I really love the 6" utility knife. I use it all the time. It is great for slicing cucumbers, squash and zucchini and is excellent for potatoes.
